Windows XP Systemtuning >> Running Windows XP with no services at all (!)

Services offer different functionality to the operating system, user accounts or a variety of applications - some of them useful but some of them not. W-Tweaks.com showed how to deactivate unnecessary services in this article. Now, we go a step further and show you how to run Windows XP with no (!) services at all and thus get an operating system with maximum performance. Dont worry, in most cases even the internet or network connections should work properly although the services have been disabled. This is how you run XP with no service:

1. Download Process Explorer and start this little tool. Right-click on the Smss.exe entry. Select Kill process from the context menu. You have now disabled the service who is responsible for the Windows logon process.

               WinXP-468

2. Right-click on Winlogon.exe but select Kill Process Tree this time. Now Winlogon.exe (Logon and Logoff), Lsass.exe (Security Authentification) and Services.exe (all Windows services) are being terminated. All your Windows services, such as automatic updates, designs, help and support etc. are now disabled.

             WinXP-469

3. Additionally, you can disable each and every process besides Crss.exe (which is a critical kernel process) and procexp.exe (which, of course, is the Process Explorer). System Idle Process is not directly a process but it shows the CPU idling performance. If you right-click on you task-bar and select Task-Manager/Performance you can see how many MB you actually saved thanks to this little guide.

                WinXP-470

In our test case even Windows Audio or network/internet connections worked fine which is why all you professional gamers and workers out there should enjoy this tweak. Be careful: Windows-Firewall and other security services have been disabled and your system is vulnerable to a variety of attacks. So please think about this step if you are connected to the internet!
