Windows XP Systemtuning >> Enable DMA-Mode and significantly improve file operations

The DMA-Mode allows your Windows to directly transfer files from a storage device (DVD-drive, hard disk etc.) to the main memory - without this, all data will be processed by the CPU first, thus leading to significant slower operations. We strongly recommend enabling the DMA-mode to boost your Windows performance:

1. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Switch to Hardware/Device Manager and select IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

2. Double-click on each entry from this section (Primary... and Secondary IDE channel). Go to the Advanced Settings page and select DMA if available under Transfer Mode - do this for each entry and click OK! Once you have restarted your computer we recommend going through the same procedure to check whether DMA still is activated. If not, there are two possibilities:

a) Your device does not support DMA (which is quiet rare, especially with machines newer than 1995).

b) The driver of your device is incapable of DMA. There is a chance that the hardware manufacturer has some updates for your device - try www.google.com or the manufacturers homepage.

After DMA is up and running you will feel that Windows and your programs will run much faster!
