Windows Vista RTM Lab >> More than just “compatible hardware: Vista Logo Program

Line

Microsoft wants to make sure that when you buy a new printer or a wireless router it runs perfectly with Windows Vista and that you don’t have to suffer compatibility issues. But the question is not only “Does it run under Windows Vista?” but “How will it profit from the Vista technology and features?”. Microsoft created the “Certified for Windows Vista” logo to give an easy answer to this question. Here at the Vista RTM Lab in Vegas we get first hand information on the initiative...

Example: Digitale picture frames
Microsoft shows us a new digital picture frame which has just received the Vista certification. This frame from “A living picture” features a bright 10” (Memento Model 100) or a 7” (Memento Model 70) TFT display.

Model101

The certification in this example means that it doesn’t only just install a driver for this picture frame. Additionally, lots of applications and technologies built right into Vista will take advantage of it - for example Media Player 11 or the Foto Gallery can easily access this stylish device and transfer pictures as well as metadata. Windows Vista also recognizes this picture frame as a network device and allows you to feed it with all kinds of data. You will find more information on this picture frame (coming February 2007 - in the US that is) on http://www.alivingpicture.com/.

Bottom line
Thanks to the “Certified for Windows” logo you will not only see “just” compatible devices but also devices that integrate well into the Vista infrastructure and give you a more interesting experience.
