Gerard Nijsse was born on August 19, 1974 in Ede, The Netherlands. He received his secondary education at the Van Lodenstein college in Amersfoort and graduated in 1993. From 1993 to 1998 he worked on his master's degree in Electrical Engineering at the Delft University of Technology (Netherlands) and he received his degree with honors.
After finishing his master's he became a Ph.D. student. He spend one year working in Delft and continued his thesis at the University of Twente (Netherlands). He obtained his Ph.D. degree in February 2006 in the are of design, implementation and validation of control algorithms on real-time platforms. The thesis can be found here [PDF, 6.6 MB].
During his Ph.D. a certificate was obtained from the Dutch Institute of Systems and Control for successfully following five post-graduate courses in systems and control engineering. Gerard authored eighteen scientific conference and journal publications and numerous internal reports. Furthermore, he won a best paper award and filed one patent (which is still pending). In November 1997 Gerard started writing on a small scale, which slowly expanded up to now. He now works as a computer journalist for various publishers and specializes in software and internet and is a senior editor for w-tweaks.com. Since 1997 over 150 publications appeared in a number of magazines and Gerard was a guest in two Dutch radio shows for pioneering work in the information and communication sector.
Moreover, Gerard wrote several books, among which his first book entitled Hoe maak ik mijn pc sneller in April 2003. The book deals with obtaining a faster computer by making advanced hardware and software settings. It was one of the better selling books of the publisher.
The little time which he has available for doing other things, Gerard likes to cruise around in his car, go see friends, walk in the woods, listen to music and watch movies.
